Here are the new mirrors on the hummer. I am painting the mirrors and doors flat black. Here is a shot before the paint. The grey is self etching primer.

horseshoes and handgrenades
One of the many sketchy fixes on Eli's truck is the exhaust. The P.O. kept the stock 3" piping but straight-piped it and added a 7" tip. For new hangers he used horseshoes up front and a bungee on the last one. It looked ridiculous when driving, the tail pipe was swaying all over the place. We propped up the tailpipe and replaced the bungee with a universal hanger from autozone. I mig welded one end to the frame and attached the other end to the tailpipe with 3/8" bolt, nut and nylock nut.

Hmmwv
I scored a pair of Humvee on eBay for $100. I already have a couple mirrors I pieced together but these are complete military take offs. They need some cleaning up but I am sure they will look great once cleaned and mounted!

driving blind
The day after we fixed the throttle linkage Eli took his truck out to run an errand. Seven miles down the freeway going up an overpass the hood fly's up smashes the windshield, bends the hinges and severely dents the hood. Luckily Eli calmly slowed down and pulled over (completely blind) and called me. I was just getting off work, we talked for 30 seconds and then his phone ran out of battery.
I rushed to his location, helped him pry the hood back down and secured it with bungees.
We proceeded to drive back home with the whole windshield completely smashed and spider-webbed. Luckily the cross members were not affected. Eli got an appointment to get his windshield fixed the next day (unfortunately he didn't take before and after pics). The day after that we went to our local pickNpull and luckily there was complete 2nd gen 1500. This location doesn't get many dodge trucks let alone second gens and when they do they are usually stripped clean in the first couple days so we got lucky. Eli got his hinges and a fuel filler neck (his truck was missing one) and I got another climate control setup (the top knob on mine is snapped off).

throttle linkage
Since we replaced so much of the front end Eli made an appointment to get his truck aligned (the aliment was off to begin with. The day before the appointment he lost power driving home from work (luckily down the street for his house). He limped it home and we investigated in the morning. It turns out the throttle linkage (I think that is the right term) was very worn. The ball joint would not stay on its designated post. Since it was the weekend we didn't have time to track down a replacement part. I decided to replace the ball joint with a heim joint. Lucky for Eli I still have my old fuel shut off solenoid. I ended up robbing the heim joint off of it, cut the threaded section off, cut off the ball joint parts, welded the heim joint to the female part of the ball joint, welded the threaded rod to the plate and assembled everything. The the new setup is installed and works properly.
